Getting Started
How do I create my first family tree?

After signing up and logging in, click "Create New Tree" from your dashboard. You'll start by adding yourself, then you can add parents, siblings, children, and other relatives. Our intuitive interface makes it easy to build your family tree step by step.
Is there a free plan available?

Yes! Our Basic plan is completely free and includes up to 50 family members, basic tree features, and the ability to add photos and stories. You can upgrade to Plus or Premium plans for unlimited members and advanced features.
Can I import data from other genealogy software?

Yes! Family Tree Global supports GEDCOM file imports, which is the standard format used by most genealogy software. Simply export your data as a GEDCOM file from your current software and import it into Family Tree Global. This feature is available on Plus and Premium plans.
Features & Functionality
How do I invite family members to collaborate?

Go to your tree and click "Manage Collaborators." Enter the email addresses of family members you want to invite. They'll receive an invitation email and can create an account or login to access the tree. You can assign different permission levels (view-only, editor, or admin).
Can I add photos and documents to family members?

Absolutely! Each family member's profile supports multiple photos, documents, and stories. You can upload birth certificates, marriage records, obituaries, and personal photos. Premium plan users get unlimited storage for media files.
How do I export my family tree data?

Plus and Premium plan subscribers can export their entire family tree as a GEDCOM file at any time. This ensures your data is portable and can be used with other genealogy software if needed. Go to Tree Settings and click "Export GEDCOM."
Privacy & Security
Is my family data secure and private?

Yes! We take security very seriously. All data is encrypted both in transit (SSL/TLS) and at rest. Your family trees are private by default - only people you explicitly invite can view them. Can I make my family tree public?

Yes, you have full control over privacy settings. You can choose to keep your tree completely private, share it with specific people via invitations, or make it publicly searchable. You can also set privacy levels for individual family members (for example, keeping living relatives private while making deceased ancestors public).

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your data remains safe and accessible. If you cancel a paid plan, you'll be downgraded to the free Basic plan. Your tree will be preserved, but you may need to remove members if you exceed the 50-member limit for the Basic plan. You can always export your data before canceling.
Do you offer discounts for annual plans?

Yes! Annual subscriptions save you approximately 20% compared to monthly billing. You pay for 10 months and get 12 months of access. Annual billing is available for both Plus ($8.33/month billed annually) and Premium ($16.67/month billed annually) plans.
